FireStar Rose
|

The Firestar Rose was created as a consequence of the Black Saturday fires of February 7th 2009. The rose honours the lives which were lost in these terrible fires and pays tribute to the many dedicated CFA volunteers who were involved in the battle to stop them.
The rose is the first in the Firestar series. Funds raised from the online sale of each FireStar rose in the series will be donated towards CFA and their brigades, including the Ocean Grove Fire Brigade.
To find out more or to purchase a Fire Star Rose online visit http://www.firestarrose.com.au. When purchasing a rose online, please nominate your local Ocean Grove Fire Brigade. Funds donated will be used to purchase vital equipment and enhance training of CFA volunteers.

While we are finally having some summer weather (although extreme at times) the Ocean Grove Fire Brigade would like to take the opportunity to remind people that burning off on rural property during the Fire Danger Period requires a permit from the City of Greater Geelong or CFA Regional Headquarters and on days of Total Fire Bans there is to be no burning off at all. Burning off in urban areas is not allowed at any time of the year within the City of Greater Geelong boundaries. On Total Fire Ban days a gas or electric bbq can be used providing it is located within 20 metres of a permanent dwelling. Portable places of residence such as mobile homes, caravans or tents are not dwellings in accordance with the CFA Act therefore cannot be cooked in on Total Fire Ban days. This is just one of a few conditions in place for the use of bbq's. For more information download the "Can I or Can't I" brochure.
