FireStar Rose

The Firestar Rose was created as a consequence of the Black Saturday fires of February 7th 2009. The rose honours the lives which were lost in these terrible fires and pays tribute to the many dedicated CFA volunteers who were involved in the battle to stop them.

The rose is the first in the Firestar series. Funds raised from the online sale of each FireStar rose in the series will be donated towards CFA and their brigades, including the Ocean Grove Fire Brigade.

To find out more or to purchase a Fire Star Rose online visit http://www.firestarrose.com.au. When purchasing a rose online, please nominate your local Ocean Grove Fire Brigade. Funds donated will be used to purchase vital equipment and enhance training of CFA volunteers.

Bushfire Season 2009/10 Print

It is now the fire season and you should be fully prepared.

Victoria is an extremely fire prone area of Australia. Whether you live, work or play here, almost any part of Victoria could come under threat from bushfire at some time.

The suburbs, the beach, the forest, the countryside, the mountains – every Victorian resident or visitor in every environment has a role to play in personally protecting themselves from bushfire.

Fire Restrictions

Fires in the open air are restricted throughout the summer as soon as the Fire Danger Period is declared in a particular municipality. It will depend on the season and the amount of rain and fuel build up as to the timing of Fire Restrictions in your municipality.

Some municipalities in the drier parts of the State may begin to declare Fire Restrictions from the start of November. Other municipalities in other parts of the State may not introduce restrictions until December. To check if Fire Restrictions are in force in your municipality go to Fire Restrictions.

Fire Danger Ratings

Monitor the Fire Danger Ratings daily throughout the bushfire season.

Preparing your property

Throughout the fire season you need to maintain your property and be fire ready. Preparing your property is important whether your plan is to leave early or stay and actively defend.

Your Bushfire Survival Plan

If you have not already done so you need to develop a Bushfire Survival Plan. To help you develop your plan you can:
